The Pension Action Center was formally  launched in April 1999. It brings together several ongoing projects of the Gerontology Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston. These include:
the New England Pension Assistance Project (providing assistance to individuals having trouble understanding or obtaining their pension benefits)
the National Pension Lawyers Network (providing referrals to attorneys and to other professionals with expertise regarding pensions, such as actuaries and accountants)
research on pension policy and pension availability
